The MAN L21/31 engine is a turbocharged, single-acting four-stroke diesel engine of the trunk type with a cylinder bore of 210 mm and a stroke of 310 mm. The crankshaft speed is 900 or 1000 rpm.

The engine can be delivered as an in-line engine with 5 to 9 cylinders.

Easy maintenance

For easy maintenance, the cylinder unit consists of the cylinder head, water jacket, cylinder liner, piston and connecting rod which can be removed as complete assemblies with the possibility of maintenance by recycling. This allows an MDT pit stop exchange service which means simplified on-site maintenance, short downtime and reliable performance between planned overhauls.

The engine is designed for an unrestricted load profile on HFO, low emission, high reliability and simple installation.

Fuel flexibility

The engine can operate on a variety of fuels, such as DO, MGO, HFO, biofuels and crude oil. The engine fulfils the WBII emission level and can be optimised further if required.
