With twelve engines of type 18V48/60, the power plant has a total output of 212 MWe and, with a typical capacity utilisation of 85%, supplies the grid with an efficiency of approximately 43%. The new power plant will meet around 25% of the island's energy needs. It replaces a plant built in 1973 that also operated with MAN engines. The construction site in La Réunion was started in October 2009.
